Kent lives, works, shops and eats in downtown Calgary. He has for years. His issues are your issues.
Safe Streets…
Back in 2009, violent crime in downtown Calgary was a serious issue. Kent’s advocacy contributed to the addition of 60 new police officers walking the beat in downtown Calgary. He also introduced and fought for legislation that would have imposed tough new penalties for illegal gun ownership. There’s no stronger voice for safe streets in Calgary Buffalo, and Calgary in general, then Kent.
City Living…
Kent is a vocal advocate for the rights of apartment and condo dwellers, and those who live in our urban core. He’s spoken out about shoddy condo construction standards, spiking power bills, and insufficient seniors’ housing. In March of 2012, Kent introduced the Homeowner Protection Act, a common-sense bill designed to strengthen consumer protection for buyers of new homes and condos.
Human Rights…
In the first session of his first term in office, Kent called on the Government to amend the Alberta Human Rights Code to finally explicitly protect individuals from discrimination based on sexual orientation. In the spring of 2009, that happened at long last. Kent is firmly against the concept of “conscience rights” -which, is just discrimination by another name. He has been, and will always be, in the corner of those fighting for human rights.
K-12 Education…
You would be hard pressed to find a news story about K-12 education in Alberta without a quote from Kent, fighting for kids, parents and educators. Kent comes from a family of educators, and his passion is clear, whether he’s advocating for full-day kindergarten or speaking out against short-sighted cuts.
If you think Kent is on the right track, he needs your support.
